One of the activities available to ACRA members is the Wednesday Golf. Beginning in May and running unil mid-October, weather permitting, between 24 to 32 golfers enjoy a round of golf with friends and former colleagues. This event is also open to non-ACRA members. The apres-golf is an option for golfers to meet at a local restaurant to enjoy a meal and libations. Either their golf game is replayed or most of the major world problems discussed and solved.
Each week, our Commish (Bob Forget), challenges the golfers with a competition event. Examples are: Fewest Putts, Fairways hit, On the Green, Calcutta and Closest to the Pin. Thw winner(s) receive not onlyrecognition but a cash prize, Also, a record of the golfers weekly scores is kept. These scoresdetermine the winner of the two major prizs: the Commissoner's Cup and the ACRA Championship. The schedule and the weekly information is kept on the ACRA website (https://acracan.ca).
Veloamigos Cycling Club is a small group of seniors tha gets together once a week, on Tuesdays, weather permitting, April Through October. Most excursions are in the Montreal area, a few are further afield, but all are within an hour's drive from 53rd Avenue in Lachine. A typical apres-golf with good food and a few libations. Every one had a designated driver for the ride home, but not on the tee.The golfers look to be happy with their golf game or is it just the libations.
The Carravelo Cycling Club began in 1995 and has been going strong ever since. It organizes weekly bike trips around the Montreal area throughout the cycling season..
In keeping with the personal inclination of each member, any excursion can be modified as long or as short as he/she desires.
The prime
objective of the club is to provide an outlet for moderate physical activity in a safe and enjoyable environment.
A number of non-cycling social activities are held throughout the year to enhance the "esprit de corps" of the group.
The club also donates a bicycle with a lock and helmet to a deserving underpriviledged youngster each year.
Anyone interested in more information or taking a ride with the group is asked to contact Len Tynan at lentynan@videotron.ca.
